A charming French village in an ideal central position for exploring the whole of the Portes du Soleil ski area which spans the French and Swiss border.
Chatel is accessed by vehicle from either south of the Lake Geneva, where you will pass through the villages of Abondance and La Chapelle or can be accessed coming north around the Lake through Switzerland. The shortest way is south bound which is approximately 69kms compared to north around the lake which is 135kms. Both routes are similar times of 90mins.
Chatel is an alpine ski resort offering suitable skiing for all capabilities. Super Chatel in the heart of the village, offers tranquil and easy runs for the beginners but links to our neighbouring Swiss resorts of Morgins and Torgon. Linga links onto the Cornebois and Combes area where not only do you have stunning pistes for intermediate level skiers but the off piste is sublime. Pre la Joux where a majority of ski schools congregate is a great starting point if your challenge is to visit the many other resorts in reach for blue run skiers or above.
Chatel ski area combined with the Portes du Soliel, makes this ski area one of the largest in the world with 650kms of pistes. To get you from the 3 key areas of Chatel, namely Super Chatel, Linga and Pre le Joux, shuttles operate all day regularly from the slopes to the centre of Chatel.
Catered chalets and some hotels offer private minibus services also in alot of cases. Local restaurants, quality chalet accommodation and hotels along with a great choice of lively nightlife make Chatel one of the best ski resorts in the Portes du Soleil area.
In the summer Chatel offers many attractions and things to do for the whole family including mountain biking, rafting and parapente. Summer time is festival time where many village traditional fetes take place including the likes of the famous ‘Belle Dimanche’ otherwise known as the ‘Beautiful cow competition’
Chatel is located 69kms from Geneva airport if travelling south around Lake Geneva. It is approximately 80 mins in time when the traffic is light or no other road issues, such as snow for example. Chatel is located on the border of France and Switzerland and therefore allowing you great access to many beautiful places to explore in the region.
